Scarpa thinks of Valdez, Alaska, as the big-mountain playground for the “everyman.” Cheap houses to rent down in town and only a 40-minute drive to access huge lines, steep spines, and deep, stable snow. Think of the Freedom as the Valdez of boots — easier access to get you into the big time. They maintain performance and quality by making them in Italy, with Intuition liners, and swappable soles if tech bindings are your mode of travel. Polyurethane lets them bring down the price, without losing precision or muscle. The flex still measures 110, so you won’t find yourself overpowering the boot. A single buckle on the upper, with a stout power strap, sheds a few grams.
  • Adjustable Spoiler - An adjustable spoiler allows you to dial in the comfort and fit
  • Intuition Speed Ride Liner - Heat moldable for precise comfort and fit
  • Oversized Power Strap - The oversized power strap allows you to dial in the fit while the dual loop closure allows you to customize the progressive flex in the upper
  • Oversized Buckle - An oversized buckle allows maximum response without adding weight
  • Ride Power Block - Provides maximum power on the downhill and a friction-less 27 degrees range of cuff motion on the uphill
  • Vibram Mountain Piste Sole - The Rockered sole allows for easier walking and the added lugged grips makes scrambling across rocks more secure. This sole is compatible with all AT and TLT bindings.

    About Scarpa

Innovation and tradition share equally deep roots at SCARPA. The company was among the first to recognize the needs of northern Italy's rapidly developing mountaineering and climbing culture, and to develop footwear with features dedicated to those pursuits. Those features, along with the brand's legendary durability and fit, led to many of Italy's early mountaineers using SCARPA shoes. In 1965, an Italian-American living in Boston began importing SCARPA footwear, making it the first manufacturer from the Asolo region to export to the U.S. In 2005, SCARPA opened a North American headquarters, headed by veterans of the outdoor industry in North America.
