Comments about Spirit Stove:

I now own several of These stoves now, each in different configured cooksets. One for day hikes, one for backpacking, one for camping, one for emergency/survival. one for home backup, and three more to experiment with different cooksets.
They are not the fastest stove in the world, but they work well. Fuel is readily available. And these stoves are built like tanks. Best of all, NO MAINTENENCE REQUIRED.

This stove was purchased to replace an old soda can stove (really just being lazy and didn't want to make another one). I had been an avid ultralight backpacker and as always looking for ways to shave a few ounces here and there. My cook kit consisted of a 3 cup espresso pot, a 3 cup pot, stove, stand and windscreen. Now I replaced the hiking with motorcycling and still have to e concerned with pack weight and durability. That's where the trangia fits well. The unit is sturdy, compact and light weight. There is no need to "preheat" the stove, just fill it, light and cook away. I usually put in about 1.5 ounces of fuel (denatured alcohol, ethyl alcohol, heet, etc) and can boil 2 cups in about 5 minutes (granted, I rarely get above 1000 feet). I think it's better than the gas backpack stove in portability and weight.

Not super experienced, at back country cooking. Bought the spirit, base/windscreen and small pot. Have used the system on a few overnight trips along the Pacific Crest Trail. It's super basic to use, and you might wanna use Heet, as fuel. Haven't used it at altitude, in rain, or snow. Works for a primitive like me!
