Love the technology behind this filter. I was on dialysis for almost 2 years, so I 'get' how this works. Lightweight, easy to use. Folds small...you can tuck it anywhere. Weighs almost nothing. Great buy!

I don't like hauling a lot of water if it is available throughout the trail. The Sawyer allowed me to fill the pouch when ever I passed water and drink straight from the filter. If I had a long stretch without water, I would fill multiple pouches and filter on the way into a bottle with drink mix or again straight from the filter/pouch. I hate to pump water standing on a rock in a steam, so now I squeeze the pouch sitting in a nice spot by the trail or hiking down the trail.
The one drawback that I had is that unless your water source is "cascading water", you need another cup to fill the pouch. Easily solved by cutting the bottom out of a plastic soda bottle that you can store the filter in. I haven't tried it, but the filter might even thread onto a 2 liter soda bottle which I think would be easier to squeeze out the water.
The pouches store flat when not filled so they don't take up much room in your pack and the whole setup is very light. No more pumping for me!

With my worsening back problems, I have been slowly shifting to ultralight backpacking. These days, the heaviest item in my pack is the water bottle (filled). I have two backcountry water purifiers but they are both over 16oz in weight. I've been looking at MSR, Sawyer, and Platypus for these lightweight filters - seemed to be a toss up until Campsaver put the Sawyer squeeze on sale. I'm glad I got it - if you factor in the necessary accessories like tubes and 2 bags in the Platypus gravity feed, their weight actually adds up. With the Sawyer Squeeze I can just bring my regular water bottle, which I can regularly fill with filtered water.
