Q Does the sizing include the length of the waist Belt? Would a size medium fit someone with a 34 inch waist?

The Medium Boreas Buttermilks 40 Pack fits a waist size of 30-32 inches. A Large fits a waist size of 33-36 inches.

Unfortunately, Boreas has not provided a specific weight limit for this pack, but in our experience packs with similar specs max out at around 30-35 lbs.

Q Would this pack be appropriate size for a carry-on?

Carryons can't exceed the total linear dimension of 45 inches in general. The dimensions for this pack are 21-28x12x7.5. if you stuff it as much as you can then the length is 28, which will set you over the limit, but if you only moderately stuff it so it's 25 or smaller then you will be good.
