Are slings and runners the same?

In climbing, runners and slings are the same thing. There's really no difference, it's just a different name for the simple yet handy little bit of gear that's invaluable when you're between the approach and the summit. Used for anchors, anchor extensions, quickdraws, rope ascension, and all sorts of improvised configurations, you'll rarely find a climber who goes without slings/runners.

What is a sling rope?

A sling rope is a section of climbing webbing either tied or sewn into a loop. They can be made by climbers or purchased ready-made. They're typically made of nylon, but also found in more modern materials like UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) polyethylenes made by various different brands. As mentioned above, they serve all kinds of great purposes. You'll most often see them with two carabiners attached to them for quick deployment while climbing.
