Very handy if you plan on simple, uncomplicated meals outdoors. With the accessories, you can quickly prepare food for 1-2 people in the worst kind of weather. Uses almost anything that burns - twigs, bark, pine cones, alcohol cup, fuel tablets, etc. The separate burner bowl can be used on another pot or to grill meat. A little bulky, but uncomplicated & reliable.
This kettle heats water faster than any product of its type and size that I've ever used or seen over the decades I've spent out of doors. It really delivers. I have burned everything from twigs to BBQ charcoal in it without a hitch. I bought the smallest model (trekker) but it may be a bit too large for day pack "just in case" carry. Frankly,a Kelly Kettle is unmatched/superb for boiling water rapidly at almost any time of the year but it is not good for cooking in general - regular gasoline/LPG stoves have it beat in terms of versatility in that regard.
Am very happy with the small Kelly Kettle. Usually when I go rustic in the woods I eat mostly nuts and dried fruits, but I sometimes want to throw together a little hot soup or a cup of tea. I first tested this thing on my front porch before i took it out camping. I had some water boiling in no time. The next weekend I took it camping with some seasoned camper friends of mine and they all loved it's simplicity and ability to run on anything that burns.

But of paper, twigs or scraps of wood, charcoal Nesbit or moth balls. And off you go! Don't overload fire box. Let 'we rip. Books quickly, don't put too much water in or it will boil over. Puts out a lot of heat in a short time. Keep hands away from chimney.
