Short and strong, like me! Actually, they expand to taller than I'd ever need for walking, but tall enough for my cuben fiber Zpacks tent. I really appreciate how short they contract to for carrying on my pack when needed. I've put a lot of miles on my pair, taking them through snow, across rivers, long and strenuous backpacking trips, and quick but challenging day hikes and they've treated me well. Easily one of my favorite pieces of gear. They are fairly lightweight and compact but very tough and don't show any signs of failing any time soon.
