Short and strong, like me! Actually, they expand to taller than I'd ever need for walking, but tall enough for my cuben fiber Zpacks tent. I really appreciate how short they contract to for carrying on my pack when needed. I'm not a fan of carbon fiber poles (splintering potential), so I was pleased to get aluminum poles this lightweight. Great locking mechanism. I'm an admitted Komperdell fan, having had their poles in the past.
I usually do shoulder season lightweight backpacking, but wanted something I could use in winter with my Siberian husky. So my needs were 4-season capability, 2-layers to prevent condensation, and tough fabric for my dog's paws. This tent meets those needs admirably. I own five Big Agnes tents (yes, it's a sickness)... this one is the easiest to erect of all. It's heavier than my ultralights, but I'm amazed at just how light it is given the super tough 100d HMPE rip-stop fabric and the extra hefty poles. Really a beautiful tent. Plenty large enough for me and the big dog. I'm looking forward to winter!
