850 fill is not heavy and this was exactly what I was looking for. On its own for 25 - 45 degree days or under a shell for skiing or colder adventures. I made the mistake of not understanding that Fill Power is not the whole story of a jackets insulation/warmth ability. This jacket is so light it could struggle to be a very effective liner. The Mammut Broad Peak Jacket boasts 850 fill power, which sounds impressive. As I learned the hard way fill power is a quality of the down not a quantity. This jacket has so little "850" down in it it's hard to detect. The jacket feels like a liner at best. Such a high price for so minimal warmth just does't seem like a good value.
