Reviews & Ratings for Mammut Broad Peak Light Jacket - Mens
— 8 reviews — Page 1
850 fill is not heavy and this was exactly what I was looking for. On its own for 25 - 45 degree days or under a shell for skiing or colder adventures. Initial reactions are high quality (have had for 2 weeks) and Amazon color is not as bright as website looks. My one gripe is the fit, I'm 6'1" and 160 pounds and the medium is slightly big. Length is fine but is very wide in the arms and in the abdomen. Price was too good to pass up and now my arms look bigger, I am keeping it!

The Mammut Broad Peak Jacket boasts 850 fill power, which sounds impressive. As I learned the hard way fill power is a quality of the down not a quantity. This jacket has so little "850" down in it it's hard to detect. The jacket feels like a liner at best. Such a high price for so minimal warmth just does't seem like a good value. I returned it, and ordered the Montane Anti-Freeze which has a 750 fill power but more of it. So far I am very impressed with the jacket and the company. They put extra attention into details that many other equally priced companies don't.

I made the mistake of not understanding that Fill Power is not the whole story of a jackets insulation/warmth ability. This jacket is so light it could struggle to be a very effective liner. I knew it was a lighter duty jacket but had know idea that 850 fill power could be that light. I accept that I was not knowledgeable on the "fill power" rating system, and should ave done more homework. But there really should be a better system to tell you exactly what the full warmth ability of an article of clothing is.
