The Mont Bell Alpine Light Down Parka gets roughly 10% lighter and softer without sacrificing durability! Functional mid-layer's flaunt characteristics essential for comfortable backcountry activity: optimized warmth to weight ratio and exceptional compressibility. The secret to the warmth of these garments not only relies on the high lofting 800 fill power goose down, but the inherent wind shedding ability of the silky 20-denier Ballistic Nylon shell. By blocking a large percentage of wind, a relatively light layer conserves the heat your body is naturally producing. Designing outdoor clothing with warmth to weight ratio in mind is great, but we also like to think the Alpine Light pieces succeed when it comes to warmth to dollar ratio.

I used this jacket in below zero conditions last December on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and on the hike down. With a peak shell over it I was never cold. I work for a guide service in Colorado and this jacket has been a lifesaver. It is warm and light and rather durable. I take it on week long trips all throughout the summer and is great to throw on when we arrive at camp. I am 5'10" and 140 lbs and a small gives a very good athletic fit to fit under other jackets..
I initially ordered a small. I wear a 37R coat and the small Patagonia fits me well. The small was way too tight and I ended up with a medium. This is a perfect mid layer for alpine backpacking and is exceptionally warm and cozy for just 14oz. Nothing else like it for the price.

I bought this for a thru-hike of the JMT, and was very impressed. It was definitely one of my favorite pieces of gear.
This is extremely comfortable and warm, and I have had no issues with durability yet. It is also pretty light; including the stuff sack mine weighed in at 14.9 oz. My sleeping bag does not have a hood, and wearing this at night with the hood on worked great fo... Read more

I had it on one afternoon. It made me depressed and disappointed.
Due to the less goose down which was in the back chambers, it could not keep your body warm. The coldness made my back hurt a lot.
The temperature was not very low, it was just about -3 Celsius out there, and no strong wind.
