Many brands make their own metal lifter but it is too easy to damage the non-stick surface. I don't know why only Optimus brave enough to make a plastic one. Plastic lifter is lighter and more friendly to non-stick pot. My Trangia stove set has got the metal grip replaced. But one thing you have to be ware of is that this lifter really cannot stand hot. Got a great deal on sale and am very happy with the purchase. Light weight and made from materials won't conduct heat. Design is very simply and appears likely to be quite durable.
