We ended up getting the Ace 48 for my son (10), because my daughter (12)got the Ace 50. She wanted blue, he wanted red, and so they are both happy. I have an Osprey pack that I really like so I looked at theirs first when I needed a backpack for my 12-year old daughter and my soon to be a Boy Scout son. We would use it on hikes up to a 5-day AT backpacking trip.
