The Petzl Reverso 4 Belay Device is a multi-purpose belay/rappel device is ultra-light (59 g, 25 % lighter than the REVERSO 3) and intuitive to use. V-shaped friction channels with asymmetrical lateral grooves adapt the friction to the type of rope for better control (ARC technology: braking control for twin, half and single dynamic ropes). Reverso mode for belaying one or two seconds with assisted braking.

I've been using Petzl's Reversos since they came out in the early 2000s. Works very well with thin double/half ropes as well as single ropes, thick or thin. In the so-called "reverso" mode, belaying two seconds simultaneously is very easy. When belaying the second it is autolocking. It's a belay device that does what it should! Great! Makes it easy to belay from the top. Great friction for rapping too, I like it better than my Black Diamond ATC XP.

Feels more cheaply made than the ATC but has functioned just as well for me in use - light for trade climbers and superb for letting out rope for lead belaying. Rappels well as well, which is an underrated quality
i used this down in maple canyon for the first time and loved it. I liked it a little bit more than black diamonds version, but they are very similar. We used the reverse 4 on a multipitch route down there too and the self braking system worked great. I went up the first pitch and the self braking system ( leader belay mode) works great to get the second climber up!!! love this... Read more
