How does this work on the older type BA Air Core nozzles and other brand mattresses. It implies that it works on others but gives no information.

This will work on any Big Agnes pad with the new valve (within the last two years). It may work with other brands, but it was made specifically for big Agnes pads.

Do I need to buy a separate nozzle to use as a shower? It seems to me that the 1" hole in the bottom would drain the water out in seconds.

There is not any shower nozzle. It would come out fast, it would be more of a douse yourself, turn it off. Soap, rinse. Let us know if you have any additional questions.
