For both the 40 and 55 liter, the small will fit a 28"-30" waist and a 16"-18" torso. The medium a 30"-32" waist and a 18"-20" torso. The large a 33"-36" waist and a torso greater than 20". The 40 L has a volume of 38L-small, 40L-medium, and 40L large. The 55 L has a volume of 53L-small, 55L-medium, and 55L-large.
