Mine has a loop of cloth tape attached about 6 in in from each end. It is not clear to me how that is intended to be used when using trekking poles. Could you enlighten me please? — 2 Answers

The cloth tapes are for pulling the cloth tight over the poles.

I would guess that's for tying it to a tree to give you your peak line, then you can stake out the rest as needed.
