The 850-loft down provides superior warmth than most down jackets. It has hand-stitched baffling so it does not contain the additional warmth benefit provided by boxed baffling, but it keeps the bulk and weight of this jacket very light and it is rated among the best for warmth in its weight grouping. It tested favorably at temperature from 35F (2 C) to -5F (-20C). The shell is made of Pertex 10 denier Quantum fabric which helps keep the weight down and it is water repellent but it is not as weather resistant as other jackets made from Pertex Endurance material with a thin polyurethane coating, or Pertex Shield XT Waterproof material . However, it is suitable for use in light rain but prolonged exposure to heavy rain should be avoided.
