Yes this jacket will start piling under weight because it is lightweight Polartec Neo Shell stretch waterproof fabric. It is designed to be highly breathable, waterproof, windproof, and stretch for active comfort.

The Neo Shell fabric should be quite durable, with the look and feel of a softshell jacket. It would be very unlikely for it to pill under the weight of a pack, if ever.
