You can sleep on either side, although most people sleep on the yellow surface with the reflective surface down.

No actually-- let's use some common sense here folks.... How can the reflective surface capture your heat and reflect it back at you if it's pointing toward the ground?? The reflective side should always be on top, close to your body, so it can reflect your body heat! Just because many people do something doesn't make it the right way, and it's true that many get it totally wrong with these pads and put the silver side down. The pad still provides some insulation that way, but it's much more effective when the reflective "SOL-ar" layer is oriented correctly, up top.
