Altra lone peak 4.5 - Altra Arrows Lone Peak 4.5 Trailrunning Shoes - Women's

These are excellent shoes! I now understand why so many thru-hikers rave about them. The feel is like being barefoot, but with protection from rocks, twigs and suchlike. The stone guard really works to keep the tenderest part of your foot protected, yet the soles have a lot of flex for free movement. I especially like the "foot shaped" toe box - lots of room to wiggle the piggies. I got these in a size 8-1/2 and feel they fit true to size, with room for your foot to expand on long hikes. I'm not a runner, but I would think these would be great for trail running for all the same reasons, plus the tread gives you great traction on loose or slick surfaces.
