Gregory L.'s Review of Asolo TPS 535 V Backpacking Boot - Mens
I’ve had a pair of Asolo Fugitive GTX (GoreTex) boots for 15 years and they’re good as new. The sole is a little worn, but not a whole lot. GoreTex is great for waterproofing, but does lead to some heat build-up in boots that use it. Having moved to Texas a few years back, I wanted a leather boot that would cause the least heat build-up. Since waterproofing isn’t much of an issue here, I went with the Asolo TPS 535 V and have zero regrets.
Asolo is a consistently great brand. My biggest worry was that this Italian manufacturer might have slacked off since I bought my old Fugitives; they haven’t! The material and build quality, comfort and fit are still there and the boot is quite handsome, too.
Pro tip for the best fit: When lacing these boots up, I point my toes and arch my foot when tightening down the non-fixed laces. After I’ve hooked the first set of lugs, I relax my foot and point it down, then crank down the remaining two sets of lugs. This gives strong support to the ankle but prevents that top of the foot pain that comes from too tight laces down low. Give it a shot and you’ll be hiking for hours in total comfort.
