Great System Bag

by Wes, Gear Expert from UT, United States Written on October 1, 2019
When buying a system bag, be sure that your pad fits the sleeve. This past weekend I took a size regular with a 20 inch wide pad on a quick backpacking trip. Temps were around/below 20* and I slept like I was at home. Having your pad secured to the bag allows you to toss and turn without getting your bag all twisted up.

I bought this for a 0 degree bag. The only bad review I had seen talked about no bottom insulation. Big Agnes had replied by saying it was made to work with their Q core mattress for bottom insulation, I have the Q core mattress. It does not fit in the sleeve even half inflated. I took 3/4 of the air out to insert and then tried to put a little more air back in and the bag became a canoe. I decided I would still keep the bag and just lay it on top of the mattress. When I got in and out I noticed little pieced of the down filling everywhere. I looked for a defect and found none. I found down co...

I sleep cold

by Ruth, from CO, United States Written on August 17, 2020
I figured a bag rated for 0 degrees would keep me warm when in the 30's-40's. It didn't. The feature that allows the Big Agnes Air AXL sleep pad to insert under bag is a nice one, altho I didn't find it any more comfortable than if I just slept on top of the pad. Its a nice bag, but for the price I had hoped it would keep me warm during summer nights in the Colorado Rockies,. It did not live up to my expectations.

Love this bag

by DovidBjorn, Verified Owner from IL, United States Written on June 8, 2020
This bag is perfect for cold weather camping for those of use who feel constricted by a traditional mummy shaped bag. This bag is spacious enough for comfort, but not too big where you’re loosing thermal efficiency and adding unnecessary weight. The material is also very soft and comfy. The implementation of the big Agnes sleep system allows the down to be strategically placed to ensure maximum warmth. That being said, it is important that you use an appropriate rated sleeping pad. I used the Blackburn with the BA q core slx and I was comfy at 18°F just wearing a base layer, sweatpants, hoodie, and a hat. Any colder than that and I think I would switch to a pad with a high r value or use a closed foam cell pad in addition. I really can’t say enough good things about this bag. I also have the Anvil horn 15 and a buddy has the mystic 15 and those are also great bags. Just depends on your budget and needs.
Pros:
  • Lightweight, comfortable, and warm!
Cons:
  • Expensive if you do not get it on sale
