Most Helpful Positive Review The Mystery of Sheep Mountain, Part 2
Now that I've actually got the tent, I've found a bunch of new features, and a couple of quibbles. But it's clearly a 5 star tent for its purposes. The color of the floor and the fly is somewhere between cranberry red and burnt orange depending on the light. The tent canopy is more of an off-white than a cream, and really brightens the tent up with internal lighting. The vestibules are a sort of silver-gray. The details of this tent have really been thought out. The stitching quality is impeccable. All the stress (failure) points are reinforced. All relevant seams have been properly taped to m...

Top quality tent

by J. Ultra, Verified Owner from OH, United States Written on April 28, 2018
After reading a couple of the very detailed reviews I decided to try out this tent considering it is/was on clearance for a great price. I motorcycle camp and usually use a 4 man tent which gives plenty of space (and height) for one or two people and their gear. I thought I would try this "3 person tent" and see if it would be adequate for just me. I set up the tent in my living room and I must say this is the easiest tent I've ever put up, even easier than my Eureka Timberline 4. Only two main poles and a spreader pole. I was impressed with the heavy duty construction and quality of the tent and materials. The #10 YKK zippers are very robust and silky smooth. The tent fly is super heavy duty and weighs more than the tent itself and has a couple of large vents. Ventilation is good and I like the higher walls for privacy if the fly is not needed rather than the all mesh that a lot of tents are going to these days. floor space is adequate for one or two people and not be cramped. I was able to set up my "Helinox cot one" inside the tent although it was a tight fit. The listed 70"x 90" listed floor space is a somewhat less in actual use. When laying on my cot my head was very close to the tapered ends or the tent. Unfortunately the deal breaker for me is the height of the tent. At around 46" I just need more headroom. At 70yrs old I'm not as flexible as I used to be. I knew the height of the tent before I bought it but I thought I would give it a try anyway. At 5'11 I was "hu...

Easy fast set up,extra roomy, well made

by Anne, Verified Owner from NC, United States Written on September 29, 2017
I set this up in the living room on arrival. Just me, and it was up in 5 minutes. The big clip at the top was the only thing that gave me any trouble; it takes good hand strength, but I got it done. There is so much floor and head room inside! This replaces an older three person dome tent and a two person backpacking tent, both very high quality, and boy is it a step up in space allocation and head room. The tent itself is lightweight, with lots of screening and light, but enough fabric to avoid it being flimsy. The fly is very beefy and seems to be what keeps this version from being a lightweight backpacking tent. Everything seems to be really top quality, from fabrics to zippers to stitching. I called Big Agnes and they confirmed this was a limited edition, top quality tent and that they had no issues with it. They also confirmed that the quality of the floor fabric was such that no footprint was needed. This tent will be perfect for our needs.

Perfect size

Fabulous tent, perfect size and well made. Only downfall is that there are two crisscross main poles plus an extra little crossbeam pole on the top. The extra small pole is a pain to get on and off and it seems like they could have designed it without the extra pole being necessary. Other than that, quick setup for a great ten!

The Mystery of the Sheep Mountain 3 Solved

by Dave Kemerer ("Kemlex" please), Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on July 20, 2017
For starters, I wanted to know the dimensions of the tent. What is posted elsewhere is wrong. I called Big Agnes Customer Service, and was told that the Sheep Mountain 3 measures 90"x70"x46" high. Max square footage is 43.75 (not 48sf). It is not in current production, and has always been a very limited production tent. It's made for guides and outfitters using extra heavy duty components, explaining its 10lb, 11oz weight. Unless you are built like a north country bear, this is a car/canoe tent. The #10 YKK zippers are the beefiest YKK makes. A 150 D ripstop fly with 1500mm PU coating is pretty insane. No footprint is made for it, allegedly due to the durability of the floor material. However, the Big Agnes Blacktail 3 tent has the same base dimensions, and its footprint should work fine if you want one. The overall cut of the tent seems to be the same design as the Big Agnes Tumble 3, but the Sheep Mountain 3 is slightly smaller. The Sheep Mountain uses some fabric in the sidewalls, which should make it more rigid than the all mesh canopy of the Tumble 3, a construction now common in 3 season tents. But even conventional use tents from Big Agnes are known for their durability. At 68, I'm guessing I will wear out well before this tent does. I haven't received the tent as yet, so I gave it a prospective 4 stars. I will update/correct this review when I have a chance to pitch it.
