Sniega's Review of Big Agnes Tiger Wall 2 Carbon with Dyneema Tent - 2 Person, 3 Season

I bought this BA Tiger Wall 2 Carbon tent about 2 years ago. Its full price was 1000 $ although I bought it on sale. I was very satisfied initially. It is very light, has two big vestibules; I liked the materials and especially that the rainfly was kinda semi-transparent. However, within a few months, when a hiking season started, I noticed tiny holes in a rainfly. I thought that maybe I was not careful enough so I bought repair patches and fixed it. No matter how careful I try to be, I kept fixing multiple little holes. Then a pocket where a shorter/ transverse pole needs to go in fell of leaving very sticky surface. I was still backpacking. I had to fold my tent but this glued parts of rainfly together . Trying to separate glued surfaces left more holes. Then, one segment on the longest poles broke in the middle of the night and sharp edges cut a significant hole in a rainfly.. I fixed it using a repair tube that comes with a tent and I had a big enough patch to fix the hole. I was on a long backpacking trip in a backcountry. 2 days later, the same pole broke at the end of the repair tube. Luckily, I had a second repair tube to fix it. A few days later, the same pole segment broke at the end of the second repair tube and I still had 3 or 4 nights to go. I used tent stakes and my last duck tape to fix it. It worked. I am back at home planing to get in touch with BA as I would like this tent to be repaired. Actually, what I would like is to get a new tent but after paying so much for this tent, I cannot yet justify purchasing a new tent yet.
I think this tent might work better if used in mild conditions. Carbon poles might not be strong or flexible enough if you backpack in mountains above the tree line. Dyneema fabric may also be not ready for what it is used for or maybe there were defects in a particular tent that I bought.
I would recommend another version Tiger wall tent but not the carbon version.
Pros:
  • Light weight
  • big vestibules
Cons:
  • not durable
  • poles break easily
Would Recommend: No
