Good item to have
Though not mandatory to have, the footprint facilitates a speedy set up. When all the poles are inserted in the loopholes, they will balance their positions while you clip the sleeping compartments on. It helps to orient and stabilize everything and promote a cleaner environment inside the tent. Worth the investment.

Set your tent up in the rain.
I brought this with with the hope it would allow me to setup the tent with the fly, in the rain, then allow me to setup the sleeping compartments with out getting them wet. It worked really well.
