MWise's Review of Big House 4 Tent - 4 Person, 3 Season [Clearance]

After spending most of my camping years crawling in and out of backpacking tents -- and loving them for their light weight and bombproof weather capabilities -- this is the first "large" tent I've owned. Bought it as a means of getting my then new girlfriend to go camping. Turns out to have been a wise choice! Bought the older single door model on clearance along with the optional vestibule and have been well impressed. Felt good knowing it was a Big Agnes product (long a fan) and haven't been disappointed on that score. The tent is an easy pitch for two people -- even in the dark -- and is spacious and airy. At 6'2" I can nearly stand up in the tent and there's tons of space for us and our gear. The tent ventilates very well too -- even with all the hatches battened down! I can attest to it's ability to shed weather after riding out a hard, all-night, rainstorm in the UP last summer. Completely dry inside come the sunrise. There are sufficient guy lines attached to the fly to effectively channel water away from the tent. Using them also helped a lot with the wind that accompanied the storm. While I wasn't thrilled with the bright colorway of the tent (usually preferring to be "low impact" in this regard too), the un-expectedly pleasant light show it provides inside the tent makes it all worthwhile! Let's just say you should try it. Finally, the optional vestibule adds a great front porch to the tent. Albeit cozy, you can fit two people, camp chairs and a small table in there -- so a great place to get out of the sun or rain if need be. Plus, there's a zippered door on both side of the vestibule so you can easily adjust to the wind/sun/rain as it suits you. All in all, worth every penny I paid -- but most especially as it helped me gain a now avid camping partner because it's so comfortable!
