Biolite Cookstove

by Pat, from PA, United States Written on November 13, 2017
This is the Biolite stove model that does not charge electronics. The blue snap-on unit is a battery-powered fan only. I charged the battery in my car on the way to the campground, and it worked perfectly for the next four days. I still have a good charge left. I burned a mixture of twigs and wood pellets. The fan created a good, hot blaze, and (although I did not time it) water boiled quickly. As with most small wood stoves, you can't walk away from the stove because the wood burns quickly and the fire needs tending. You need to have a pile of fuel ready. . . You must lift your pot to add fuel. There is very little ash left. Both the stove legs and pot supports are sturdy. Because of the weight and bulk of the stove, I would not use it for backpacking. But for car camping and possibly canoe camping, I think it's a very good wood stove. A previous reviewer recommended putting aluminum tape on the top and upper sides of the fan unit so that wind-blown flame wouldn't melt it. Having used the stove, I think that's a great idea and I did it. I'm very satisfied with this stove.
