The kicker skins worked perfectly when I used them on my telemark skis on the Castle Peak trail at Lake Tahoe, California. I went 2.5 miles (one way) with a steady 1,000 feet ascent with them, but did not summit Castle Peak (9098 feet). On one section they worked well even when I was using heel lifters. On the return I kept them on to see whether I can get good speed with them -- they helped to control my speed inside the deep walled tracks, but I wasn't going very fast. I decided to shortened them by 2.5 inches to optimize their performance. I still would carry full length skins for peak climbs, but these work nicely for easier glides on long approaches. One alternative is to apply appropriate waxes to get the traction on the flats. With the kicker skins I don't have to deal with snow sticking to the bottom in variable conditions.
