by KarlosJ83, Gear Expert from UT, United States Written on September 10, 2011
this is a updaate on my hilight tent. i have now been in 50 mph gusts with no difficulty, although had to guy out the tent. spent 16 hrs of continous rain and stayed somewhat dry. and of late spent a night out with 20+ inches of snowfall in 16hr. period. i just added a vestibule which i had the night of the snow. with the exception of having to knock the snow off the tent thruout the night

Black Diamond HiLight Tent

by Rick S., Written on April 3, 2016
We purchased this tent to pitch on the Baja rack atop our FJ Cruiser: PERFECT. Tent needed to be single-wall (no fly); light; durable; and well-ventilated. The HiLight is an EASY 3-pole “pitch,” and it has a modest footprint, but still sufficient to accommodate (2) 24” x 72” insulated pads. VOLUME on this tent is a wonderful aspect . . . FULL head room . . . And since we’re tying down the corners, we don’t need stakes to pitch the tent, so it weighs in at just under 3#. Add fast shipping and the price; we couldn’t be happier!

Great Tent - Too Small

by Erik K., Written on August 4, 2015
I’m a long-time owner of a Bibler Ahwahnee, which is my all-time favorite tent. But it’s a bit heavy by modern standards and so when the zipper started to fail and the screen mesh tore, I decided I would purchase a HiLight, owing to the design similarities and reduced weight. I really only needed a one person tent, so this seemed like the perfect option.

I expected a smaller, lighter, well-designed tent, which is exactly what I got. However, at just shy of 6’ 1” the tent was too snug lengthwise by a couple of inches. It was only when I lay at a perfect diagonal that the tent wasn't touching my head or feet. For minimalist mountaineering this may be fine. But I do mainly moderate backpacking and like to be able to lie lengthwise without obstruction. If this tent were a mere 3-4” longer, that would make all the difference in the world.

Lastly, the lack of a separate mesh door, which I’m sure shaves off a couple more ounces, means that this tent is a poor choice for hotter, buggy conditions. Again, I realize this isn’t it’s primary purpose, but adding a mesh for a couple ounces would make a huge difference here. Glad I set this up in my garage to explore a bit before I took it out!

Very nice tent, Black Diamond, but a little too focused on weight saving at the expense of other qualities for my purposes. I’m going to opt for an Ahwahnee repair instead.

Excellent 1-2 person tent

by John, from WA, United States Written on April 3, 2014
I purchased the tent for ultralight alpine climbing and some summer backpacking with my son as well.
I recently had the tent out on an early winter high alpine solo trip and it performed admerably well. I like the internal pole setup which was nice as it kept me out of the wind and snow while putting it up. Getting all the poles seated correctly was a bit tricky, but really not that much worse tha

Light & compact enough to take as a back-up if you prefer sleeping under the stars but don't really enjoy slogging out the rainy nights!

Quality Light Weight Tent

by Brendan, Written on September 10, 2011
This is marked as a two person tent and while it is possible to fit two people, you had better be very comfortable with your tent mate because you will inevitably end up laying on top of each-other. This fact doesn't bother me however, I was really looking for a spacious one person tent so that my dog and I can backpack together. If you do plan to use this as a two person tent then I strongly advi

just bought the tent and have used it once, not in the rain or snow. plenty of room for my dog and gear. no condensation. i like the fact the owner seals the tent it is like bonding with the tent and you know the quality of the job. i think maybe a bit more sealent could be provided as i used a partial tube of sealent i had to finish the job
