Improved version rocks!
We have a Storm and an earlier Spot in our camping family. This new version of the Spot rocks, more lumens, seriously bright on high, but quite enough light around camp on low. The lock feature ensures the light cannot turn on in your pack/backpack and drain the battery, a big problem without that feature. The redesigned battery door is a nice change, too. The last one you were afraid of breaking it, tough to get into, and impossible with gloves on for winter hiking.
My favorite feature by far, though is the Power Tap. It's not really a tap, but one good touch on the Power Tap on the side of...

When too much is too much
Great headlamp that's comfortable and works very well. However it has way too many functions so changing functions is a ridiculous process of pushing buttons until you happen upon the right combination, which could take a while. Instead of making the same button capable of multiple functions it should have different buttons for each function however as it is making it do what you want is like playing Russian roulette. Which is fine if you like carrying directions, aren't in a hurry or if you grew up with a hand held controller in your palm.
Pros:
- reliable red and white light
Cons:
- hard to find desired function
Best Used for:
- Multipurpose
Would recommend: Yes
Black Diamond Spot Headlamp
Well designed, comfortable, light and bright. I haven’t tested battery length. Bought this for a light weight hunting headlamp. This light will get me through the lowlight processing and after dark extraction from the woods.
Pros:
- weight
- Design and compactness
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- Anything and everything
Would recommend: Yes
Good light adjustability
This is a good headlamp. The light has a nice brightness adjustment. On low great for inside the tent. Very bright with both lights on at once. Red light and strobe function a added plus..the light angle is adjustible as well.Comfortable as well.

Perfect headlamp
Perfect headlamp, with arguably too many modes / settings. Strong primary beam, plus myriad additional functions. Enabling the various features is not always intuitive- keep the manual handy. Overall, fantastic value for the money.

What's NOT ro like?
I'm sure there are other headlamps out there that are pretty good, but I can't think of one that's better, or at least not for my needs. The quality for such a small item is first-rate.
It takes up to nothing in the way of packing space and that's why I own two,- one that goes with my backpacking gear and one that goes with my photo equipment. Either way, this is with me at all times. It is very bright and that's something to wonder at since it's powered by three AAA batteries. You can also control the level of brightness. And if you need them, the spare batteries, themselves, don't take up anything to speak of in the way of either space or weight. Your chances of needing those spares, say on a two week trip / hike, are slim to none.
It's comfortable to wear, easy to operate, and it's pretty much waterproof.

Pros:
- All of the above

- None that I can think of.
Best Used for:
- Outdoor activities,- play & work, but I can think of other uses.

A great update of the Spot
This is my second Spot head lamp. The first is still going strong after several years of routine use but I decided to look around for something a little brighter and was delighted to find that this newer Spot is 300 lumens instead of 200. Seems like the same high quality as my last Spot and it feels lighter than the old model. I don't recall the weather resistance rating of the old model although I got it wet plenty of times and never had an issue. This one seems to be even more waterproof.

Hits the spot
This headlamp is light and bright. My primary use is night bike riding. I have a powerful light on my handlebars. This headlight provides a very useful supplement that allows me to quickly increase visibility either near or far, depending on what interests me.

4th one I've Bought Because They Rock!
The Black Diamond Spot is everything I want in a headlamp. I bought a total of 4, one each for my kids at college and for me and my wife. Waterproof, durable, and a powerful beam make it perfect for hiking/camping/canoeing. And it serves well for around the house and whenever I take an urban trip overnight. Buy it. You'll be happy with it.

So nice!
This affordable lamp has a great balance between weight and brightness. I found the bullet proof storm to be a bit too bulky with 4 AAA batteries but the spot is perfecto! I use it constantly and never leave for the weekend without it. Solid piece of gear.
