Reviews & Ratings for Black Diamond Vapor Point Shell Jacket - Men's
— 3 reviews — Page 1
Black diamond has seriously stepped up their apparel game. The vapour point is an inexpensive active shell built for high-output activities. Having tested this shell out a couple times splitboarding here are my two cents:
-The shell, despite what all the research I had done before buying this jacket, breathes quite nicely. Better than expected I would say. Ironically, the lack of pit zips were ultimately a deal breaker for me; skinning up the mountain got me sweaty and gave me chills whenever we stopped or on the way back down. I really do think, breathable or not, shells should have pit zips...

I'm super picky with outdoors gear, and spent ages researching to find just the right thing. I wanted light, but not flimsy, and super breathable, but built for high activity and high humidity climates. So far this jacket is perfect and delivering on all fronts.
Only complaint is sizing is bigger than expected. I ordered a large based on size charts, but perhaps as I'm wearing this in hot/wet climates and I have fewer base layers, the jacket is a little baggy, especially in the sleeves. Bearable, but big enough to make me wonder if one size smaller would have been better. May not be an issue if you're wearing this with more base layers for cold climates.

Every piece of Black Diamond gear is top quality. This jacket is a super light weight Gore-Tex shell. The fit is a little boxier than the ultra-fitted Alpine Start Hoodie soft shell, which disappointed me at first, but later I realized it's so that I can easily layer a down jacket underneath to create a winter jacket combo with an athletic fit. Zippers are chunky and smooth, and the hood offers great coverage.
The only reason I did not give five stars is that there is no reflective material anywhere on the jacket. For commuting in the city, this is not the best choice for visibility. Compared to the fit and finish of most commuting jackets, however, I find this jacket more stylish and with a higher quality build. I will be purchasing some cheap LED's to wear around my arms and ankles to add this feature.
