Dalton's Review of Brooks-Range Ultralite Quick Tent - 2 Person, 3 Season
Bought for fast and light trips a couple months ago. I don't like fiddling around with knots on tarps, so I bought this since it's one of the cheaper shaped tarps out there and I'd had great experience with Brooks Range's products. Weights about a pound, packs down smaller than a Nalgene, and sets up in about 1 or 2 minutes with 8 stakes. Took on possibly the rainiest hike I'd ever been on a couple weeks ago without a bivy and stayed dry, even with one of the doors open - minimal condensation too. I'm 6'1" and would say it's a palace for one. Re: claiming to be a 2-person tent, I'd agree but would add you may have to snuggle a bit.
Main downside is the foot end doesn't have much space touches your sleeping bag. Easy fix is to tie a slipknot on the (included) guyline, tighten the knot around a pebble inside the tarp, and attaching the guyline to a trekking pole or tree branch.
Sad to see Brooks Range go out of business but glad I got to pick up a few of their items, including this one. Would recommend buying if you're wanting to try out ultralight backpacking on the cheap. The tarp, stakes (I had an 8-pack of Mountainsmith v-stakes laying around), and window shrink-wrap cost me less than $80 and gave me a solid shelter setup that weighs just over a pound and takes up very little space in my pack.
