After about six uses, one of the sections delaminated, so there is an elevated section running through the middle of the entire pad. Now it’s unusable. I read a few reviews saying that this would happen and thought “well, it won’t happe to me.” Unfortunately, I was wrong. Prior to that, it was ok. I liked that it was wide.
I've been wearing the Quasar Nova for a few days and comparing it to the standard Quasar I have in green (purchased a few years ago). I use the standard Quasar for backpacking and camping, got the Nova in black as an around town jacket. Glad I did! This is a really warm jacket, warmer than the standard Quasar in my estimation. This seems to be because there aren't any stitching holes and the material is 20D instead of 10D on the non-Nova quasar. I think the Nova is probably less breathable as a result. Fit is as most reviewers mention for the Quasar, only a little room left in the chest area and plenty for layering in the midsection.
I find it hard to sleep on air mattresses. They seem too wobbly to me - I never feel like I’m really secured. So I prefer foam mattresses. Down to 15 degrees, this mat is warm. Anything colder, I can feel the cold coming through. Keeping that in mind, this woks for me most of the year. And as other reveiwers have mentioned, I don’t see anything wrong with this “irregular” pad and for the price paid feel like it’s a steal. It’s bulky to carry, yes, but it’s a tank.
I've stood out in 5 degree temps for several hours in this jacket and been completely warm. Couldn't be happier with it. The zipper is ridiculously sticky and catches at first, as others have mentioned. After a while though, mine had smoothed out and I've learned to use my thumb in a manner to prevent any sticking. So no problems after a few weeks. The fit is true, and while the coat is somewhat puffy in appearance, who cares when you are warm. I would buy again. Also, this is my second Rab jacket, and I am extremely impressed by the quality of the company's products so far.
