These are my first pair of waterproof hiking shoes. I wanted a lightweight athletic shoe that is comfortable, supportive, and weather-water proof. I just moved to the Pacific NW and these have become my favorite pair of shoes. As a former practicing podiatrist, I'm particular about the shoes I wear. My feet are of average type (vs flexible or rigid) with narrow heels and average arches (vs flat or high). I wear a size 8 and they offer plenty of room for my custom orthotics and toes that do not like to be cramped. I'm an average hiker and have hiked through muddy trails and streams where rushing water came up to just below the ankle. My feet have thus far, remained dry and warm. They also provide plenty of comfort and support for me, for walking on pavement. I will have to see how they withstand the test of time, but my first impression is WOW!!!
I received these as a free gift and they are my first pair of "smart wool" socks. While there's no room in my budget for expensive socks, I can appreciate their quality and comfort. They are lightweight, warm (I live in the PNW), offer some feeling of support (not too tight and not too loose) and keep my feet dry. I also did not experience any chafing when wearing roomy shoes. Lastly, they are currently washing well in cold water with a low-mid tumble dry. If I could afford to buy a few more pairs like these, I would. I feel like they are a wonderful, quality sock for someone who has sensitive and temperamental feet which fluctuate from hot to cold.
