An engineering marvel, but very narrow

Written on Apr 02, 2018

This thing is a work of art. Ultralight and well built. It's as comfy as any cot, except it's very narrow. I'm 6'2" with pretty broad shoulders and long arms and I have to lie pretty constricted on this. And it's not like a narrow pad where you might just spill off a bit, because the thin metal bars on the sides are going to dig into your arms or elbows pretty solidly if you extend over the edge at all. My son is 5' 10" and didn't mind that a bit. It works fine for me if I put a pad on top of it--and that's some pretty luxurious sleeping. Really easy to assemble and quite small to pack. I also have the new Exped Megamat Lite which is about the same weight and it's hard to decide which I would take if I wanted to carry a little extra weight.

All in all, if you're not serious about taking it backpacking and need it to be really light I'd recommend the bigger "One Convertible" for a bit more. It's twice as heavy though which is too bad. Maybe someday Helinox will crank out an ultralite with a few more precious inches.
