All aluminum construction with a steel tip allows lightweight functional features. Why bother with other general use ice axes? This was perfect. I like the curve shaft as it gives better leverage during self arrest. Rough sand paper-like grip on bottom of shaft offers peace of mind of gloves not slipping. 8.8 oz is for 50cm, while the 60cm one weights 10 oz.

Perfectly fits my snowboard boots. Super easy to put on and tighten. Only a few ounces heavier than the CAMP XLC 490 but fits a lot better for snowboard boots IMHO.
