I'd been waiting to find a deal on this light for over a year now. The information on it seemed to indicate that it would be a fantastically bright and focused spotlight beam, with no bleed and a lot of throw.
Well, it does make a very good, completely clean-edged spotlight, at close range almost too small to be useful. However, it really needs to be significantly brighter, because once you start shining it at ranges more than about 100 yards, the intensity of the light starts to fall off significantly. My Jaxman Z1 XHP50 2400LM Zoomable LED light provides a larger and significantly brighter (albeit square and cross-haired) light spot at ranges over 300 feet, and it costs about a third of this (or half on sale). The Optical Dynamics OD50 is perhaps a bit sharper closer range, but I'm a little underwhelmed by the performance for the price. Especially for the size, which is close to twice what my Jaxman Z1 is in length, and more than twice in weight.
Still, it's an interesting illumination option, and light-heads will find it a good addition to their collection of shineys.
