Setup was easy. Paired with Garmin Explore app via android phone. Intuitive setup. Test messages successful. I had the chance to test it out while flying. Was able to send/receive text messages and location info with no problem. Battery life seems good, but I have not tried it in track mode for extended periods. Subscription options can be tailored to individual use needs. Pairs with Garmin Fenix (smart watch), Garmin Pilot App and Edge 1030 (bike computer), among other Garmin devices, for useful features and convenience. I think this device provides real value for folks who want a combination of communications, emergency notification, weather updates and fairly advanced navigation features in an integrated and relatively easy to use form. For those on a tight budget, it's not a trivial expenditure, and I remind myself that it wasn't too long ago that almost everyone went backwoods with no means of communicating, initiating search and rescue or getting weather updates. Still, those features are now available at a relative value, and this device is a quality addition to your gear set if you want any or all of those features.
