Basecamp Comfort at Backpacking Weight

Written on Apr 05, 2016

I recently picked up the Nemo Vector Insulated pad in size Large from Campsaver and while it's a bit heavier than some ultralight options, it's been incredibly comfortable. I have a large, heavy sleeping pad that I use for car camping or as an extra bed for visiting friends and this might be more comfortable. I opted for the built in foot pump (extra 3 oz) instead of the Nemo Tensor Insulated Pad and I hope that it leads to convenience and increases the longevity of the pad. It does take about 40 pumps to fill the pad, but again it's a size large and 3 inches thick so a pretty big volume of air. Even though they didn't have a demo pad yet, the staff at Campsaver were very helpful and let me check one out.

I haven't used it in the field yet and can't comment on durability but wanted to post this review for anyone else considering this new pad.

Can't Beat The Shed

Written on Jul 25, 2015

I had been looking at purchasing the Osprey Exos 58 for a while after reading reviews and trying one out at REI but I was hesitant to spend so much on another backpack. The combination of light weight while still providing a full fledged backpack (including a decent internal frame) was very appealing. When one showed up in the Campsaver Shed at a large discount I picked it up. It was classified as a used item with a "musty smell and one stain". I never noticed the musty smell and the stain turned out to be one small spot of tree sap. I scraped it off and cleaned the area. Overall, a great purchase for a fraction of the cost.
