My natural inclination is to be barefoot, but foot protection is a must most of the time. I bought two pair of these elsewhere, and they are hands-down my favorite socks! Lots of cushion for summer national park hiking, and I wear them sans shoes around the house on Texas-winter days. These are the only wool socks I own and the thickest ones I own. I can't imagine anything heavier for my own needs, but my feet don't sweat at all in these socks. Also thrilled there's a size L for larger feet like mine. I wear 9.5-10, and the L hugs my feet well but definitely has room for even larger tootsies.
