The Rab Cirrus Flex Vest uses high quality materials and packs well, although as expected the synthetic insulation doesn’t pack a small as down. The vest has a trim sizing (think European) and buyers will need to think through what they plan to layer it over. I am 185lbs, broad shoulders and a 31” waist. I generally wear a medium in shirts and my jacket sizing fluctuates between a medium and large. The medium in this vest would only layer over a very thin layer, so I’ll be exchanging for a large to support better layering options. I would say the look of the vest is equally suited for around town or in the back country. In addition to outdoor pursuits I’ll likely wear it some around the office over a dress shirt.
Let me start with the good. The bag is well designed and features high quality materials that I'm sure will stand up to many years of use (and abuse). The innovative dual zipper system seems like it would work well for climbers and the tongue flap design offers flexibility when venting. The bag also packs down quite well. Overall call me impressed.
Now for the bad. Its an EXTREMELY snug fit. I have other performance mummy bags, including the "regular" Mountain Hardware Phantom 0 bag, but those performance bags look down right roomy compared to this "Alpine" bag. I'm a fit 6'2" 180lbs with broad shoulders and while I could zip the bag closed, my arms had to be straight at my sides. i.e. I couldn't even fold them over my chest. I'm not looking for roomy, but I'm also not spending nights hanging off the side of a mountain where I can justify this tight of a fit.
To me the bag is built for exactly what it says - Alpine Climbing. If looking for a good 15* bag for backpacking or camping I would suggest looking at other more comfortable options. I'm not going to ding the rating of the bag because it is quite high quality, but be advised on its intended use and fit.
I bought this jacket in January 2020 and I'm extremely pleased with the fit, features, and most importantly the warmth. I've used it for mountaineering to stay warm during breaks, as a belay jacket for ice climbing, and lounging around during winter camping. Great weight to warmth ratio and the jacket packs down small.
I'm a fit 180lbs with broad shoulders and a 31 waist. I have long arms and generally have trouble finding jackets with long enough sleeves. I'm normally a medium but often have to size up to a large to get the extra sleeve length. This jacket fits me well in a size medium and still has room for layering. Buying from Campsaver was great - I tried both the large and the medium before landing on the medium as a better fit.
As noted in other reviews, these pants do have an extra zipper which appears to be a manufacturing mistake (or perhaps to accommodate a climbing harness under the pants). Despite the extra zipper, I've never had an issue with the fly coming unzipped while wearing the pants on multiple occasions, either hiking or lounging in camp. The pants do have a slim fit and cannot be put on or removed without taking boots/shoes off first. The comfort and added warmth is amazing for such a lightweight pant. The light weight and small pack size make it easy for me to toss these in for any cold weather adventures. I highly recommend these if you can find a deal on them, but at full price I might look at some other options.
