The Hiker Pro has been around for a long time. There are other filter systems that are lighter weight that do just as good at filtering water but none leave the water tasting fresh. The activated carbon makes the water taste great. It's worth it to me to carry the extra weight for great tasting water. The filter housing is strong protecting it from drops. In my experience, this filter is a great option for the backcountry.
