good belt

Written on Feb 08, 2017

Small is perfect for my 32" waist.

On the stiff side and annoying to tighten, insert belt through hole in buckle then and then out second hole, pull belt tight at buckle and pull slack through second hole.

I do have to make adjustments ever so often.

nice pack

Written on Feb 05, 2017

This is a busy backpack with straps and buckles, lots of options for securing equipment. Waist pockets are big, I can fit a Pentax WG-II camera with room to spare.
Can't mount snowshoes to the sides of pack, I have a hard time strapping my MSR Lightening ascent snowshoes to the front, the straps are to short, Had no problem with the Gregory Baltoro that I was using.

good mittens

Written on Feb 05, 2017

I bought these to wear over thin liner gloves.
I had the same type of mitten but a cheaper version in size medium which was a tight fit so I ordered a large.
Wore them on 2 hikes, they fit like mediums but these are very warm unlike the ones they replaced and the pinky kept on coming out while using hiking poles.
Used them in temps around 10 degrees, windy and the last hike had wind gusts up to about 30 mph.

Fit review

I just received my Alpinist Half Zip so this will be on fit. I'm 5'10" 160lbs. 15 1/2" neck.
First, like another reviewer stated the pocket is small. I can barely fit my Kyocera Brigadier phone, so I will be using it for snacks and power gels for hiking.
The arm length, covers my knuckles perfectly when using the thumb holes.
Good fit around neck.
Took my dog for a 10 minute walk with t-shirt underneath it is 38 degrees with 7-10 mph wind, I felt the cold on my arms after a few minutes. I think it will be good in moderate winter weather with a medium weight t-shirt for hiking ascents in the tree line. Update after I use it.

I bought this for ascending mountains.

I was expecting a form fitting thin hat, it is thin but not form fitting. The small band does work but the hat it self does not form to my head as well as others that I have used. It does let moisture out but it will not keep your head warm in windy conditions. I bought this for ascending mountains. I received the narrow band not the wide band.

I purchased a medium that fit perfectly, I'm 5'10" 160lbs. I wear 32"by32" jeans.
Just what I was looking for when I do my winter hiking.

Fitment review

I purchased the Large but I usually take a medium. I'm 5'10" 160lbs with a medium build and a 15 1/2" neck
The large is a little long in the arms and the neck is a little loose but it will be fine with a t-shirt underneath for winter hiking. I agree, I would consider this a midweight shirt.

I purchased the Large but I usually take a medium. I'm 5'10" 160lbs with a medium build and a 15 1/2" neck
The large is a little long in the arms and the neck is not snug but it will be fine with a t-shirt underneath for winter hiking. It is a light weight shirt, I have the black and can easily see through it. There is no material behind the zipper so as to not rub on the neck.

Fit and feel

I haven't worn this out in the mountains yet so this will be on fit and feel. I'm not familiar with soft shell jackets but I wanted one for the three seasons, wind and light rain. I weigh 160lbs. 5'10" jacket size: Medium
I like the fit, and the arms are long enough so if I'm stretching for that next hold while climbing my jacket sleeves don't ride up my arm the torso length of the jacket covers the lliac crest. The pockets are deep enough for snacks and the chest pocket is a good fit for the smart phone.

good summer gaiter

Written on Apr 03, 2014

I've used these once, bushwacking in the White mountains of New Hampshire. I originally bought the OR summer gaiters but they would bunch up like an accordion. I liked the idea of a tightening strap around the calf and a durable strap for the heel. The only thing I didn't like was the tightening strap, occasionally the excess would get caught on branches.
