I bought this hat for a recent trip to Orlando. It performed admirably in keeping the sun off my face and neck but made me pretty sweaty in the 90%+ humidity, which is the reason I only gave it four stars.
I purchased this hat over others because I wanted some method of keeping the sides up. Most hats with this feature are designed for rain and therefore pretty thick. The Simpson is designed as a sun hat and is noticeably thicker than a canvas sun hat but not nearly as thick as a Seattle Sombrero.
It looks much better in person than on any website I've seen. It packs well and still looks great despite being in the ocean and then crammed into my shorts pockets repeatedly. The buttons worked well to keep the sides up, which I find makes the hat look a little less dorky.
Overall it was the closest I could find to my ideal sun hat. If they made a similar hat, only thinner or more breathable, I'd happily shell out the cash for another one. In the meantime though, this will serve me quite well at home in Wisconsin.
