Phenomenal piece

Written on Jun 03, 2016

I live and play in the Pacific Northwest. This jacket has completely changed my layering system in temps 10-50 degrees. It's incredibly breathable yet weather resistant. In 10-25, I use a mid or heavyweight baselayer. In 25-50 I only need a light baselayer. This excels in windy and misty/light snowy conditions for such a breathable piece, but also doesn't turn you into a crock pot if the sun comes out and the wind dies down. I have always been hesitant to use hardface softshells because if I overheat, I have to drag a 3L size brick along with me, but this light material packs down much better. Very important to me because it adds to versatility when you might be seeing a wide range of temps like on alpine climbs. It is not bulky or restrictive, and it's lightness makes it very comfortable to throw a lightweight or heavyweight belay jacket over top at stops (and the hood is light enough to stay out of the way). Speaking of the hood - GREAT design with adjustability, size, and wire brim. I don't leave home in cool weather without this.

I can't comment about it's durability alpine climbing, I would expect less than hardface softshells, but it's lightness also makes it incredibly mobile.
