I bought these boots mostly for looks and somewhat for warmth. I do not enjoy the cold, I don't ski, snowmobile, etc, I simply wanted them 1) to keep my feet warm while walking in the snow into work, shopping, etc., and 2) to look nice doing those things. They are beautiful and I've gotten many compliments. They keep my feet toasty warm, almost too warm for simply shopping or running errands.
As far as sizing, there seem to be opposing thoughts. My feet are exactly 10 1/4" long, heel to the end of my big toe. I typically squeeze my foot into a size 10 or 11 (wide if I can find them). I bought these in a size 10 and they fit perfectly with a regular pair of socks (not thick). That being said, if you have a high arch (mine is comically high) you will have a difficult time getting your foot in, but once it's in there they'll be fine. With my last pair of boots (a cheaper brand, but similar style) I could keep them laced up and slide my foot in and out. I loved that convenience, but no matter how loose I make the laces, I simply cannot do that with these. The material is quite stiff in the ankle area, and walking in them is a little awkward, but again, I mostly bought them for looks; I'm willing to suffer with a little stiffness - others may not be so willing. All-in-all I love these boots, and if I could afford it, I would buy them in other colors as well.
