Almost a Perfect Travel Companion

Written on Mar 28, 2018

This review is for the newer 2018 version of the Osprey Porter 30.

I am trying to find the perfect under seat flying companion for my 1 bag travels. This bag is nearly there. My most recent experience was with Spirit Airlines with their updated under seat dimensions of 18 x 14 x 8 in. This bag is too tall and too deep at 19.5 x 13 x 10 in. Although it does not fit in the box at the airport it does fit under the seat. I had a window seat on my outgoing flight and they allowed the bag to stay under the seat. On my flight home I had an aisle seat and they said the bag stuck out too far and needed to go in the overhead. It fit in the overhead without a problem.

A lot of the reviews of this bag are by 5ft 120 lb females talking about all they could fit with room to spare. I can tell you that I am a plus size female and had no trouble fitting a bathing suit 2 pairs of denim capris and 6 shirts 6 pairs of underwear and a bra into this bag without feeling like a turtle. I was able to compress the bag using the straps. I did not feel like I would have wanted to stuff my laptop in the back of the bag but that is a personal preference.

I had a bit of a revelation as I was walking around the airport and want to put this into perspective. Comfort is relative. I have a Granite Gear Taku that is my EDC. It has adjustable straps and load lifters that make the bag very comfortable. It is just too big to fit under the seat of a plane. So as I was walking around the airport wi

Great bag

Written on Jun 06, 2016

I've been using this bag as an EDC for a couple weeks now and I love it. I have used it to commute to/from work and on a couple short walks so far and it holds everything I need without being awkward. The longer shape compared to a traditional backpack helps keep my stuff closer to my body and makes it a lot easier to carry. I'm taking it as my main bag for a 4-day trip this weekend and I think it will work out just fine for a few outfits and some toiletries. The shoulder straps are very comfortable and the compression straps on the side of the bag are a huge plus at keeping the contents close to your body instead of weighing you down. The venting on the back of the bag made a difference today with the muggy weather as well - and the included rain cover definitely kept my stuff dry. Overall I am very happy with the purchase.
