Cogitated about this for over a year thinking it was a superfluous addition to my beach chair. Boy, was I wrong.
There is a brushed material that faces your head and the velcro patch is very sturdy.
Overbuilt valves ensure trouble free usage for years to come.
Expensive but worth it, IMHO

Big Agnes Q-Core Deluxe Sleeping Pad
This pad exceeded my expectations. Side sleeping is no problem and the textured surface is excellent. A little bulky for light weight backpacking but perfect for canoe camping. New valves are a joy to use. Stretch material on top is brilliant. Just got back from 3 days in the Yellowstone backcountry and glad I had the Q-Core Deluxe because a lot of time was spent inside the tent escaping the seasonal plague of mosquitos.
