I have 22 years of backpacking experience. I weigh 240lbs! Sitting comfortably after a long day of hiking in the sun can be a challenge. First, I used a pad, Then came the tripod chairs made out of wood and later metal. I am one of the first persons in my large packing group of guys to purchase the ever-popular collapsible chair with a fabric backing around 10 years ago that has revolutionized the sitting comfort of many hikers. HOWEVER! The Deluxe Stargazer is the Cadillac of all chairs. I just got back from the Sierras and took this 6lb. chair a few miles with me and have no regrets! Yes, it is big, and it is heavy. I am not a go lite backpacker. I am a go comfortable hiker. This chair is like having a mini hammock and chair put together. I have read some reviews that say it needs a footrest. While this would be nice, I don't see it happening due to the actual design. Tie some paracord around a branch and put your feet on it! No big deal! I can lean back and forth using the chair's strap system with ease!
The quality of the material and the beefiness of the frame make it easy for a big guy like me to relax! The smaller collapsable chairs you still have to be careful, especially during happy hour. You will be the belle of the ball for bringing the Nemo Stargazer to the dance. Everyone will want to get one! If you are a smaller person, I suggest getting the less expensive smaller model. If you backpack using mules, no problem bringing the extra weight
